OR / SPD: Building a Stronger Relationship

Objectives:

  1. Understand the customer relationship between the sterile processing department (SPD) and the Operating Room (OR).
  2. Identify the common issues between the SPD and the OR.
  3. Explore practical tips for building a strong OR/SPD relationship.

 

Session 2

Instrument Care and Handling How to Care for Your Microsurgical Instruments in 5 Easy Steps

Objectives:

  1. Outline how stainless steel interacts with different cleaning processes and solutions.
  2. Differentiate between “staining” and “rusting” and the method by which each issue can be prevented.
  3. Define tactics for the organization of instrument IFUs, cleaning instructions and other regulatory resources.
  4. Model process efficiency for microsurgical instrument cleaning, handling and storage.
  5. Demonstrate inspection and placement of instruments in trays to prevent damage.
  6. Explain personal accountability and tracking methods for best practices in patient care.

Session 4

The New AAMI ST91: An Updated Standard for Flexible Endoscope Processing

Objectives:

  1. Discuss the updated national standard, ANSI/AAMI ST91, highlighting key differences between the 2015 version and latest version
  2. Identify current best practices in the processing of flexible endoscopes as outlined in ST91
  3. Outline how engineering quality assurance parameters into endoscope processing can help to reduce Hospital Acquired Infections (HAI) and Surgical Site Infections (SSI) and help to determine if an endoscope is patient ready Attached is the PDF.
